Not at all. But while everyone tries to figure out who Thursday's Supreme Court decision helps, state organizations are running around strategically plotting law suits. Because that's what we do in this country.
While the decision that the federal government cannot ban corporations from using general funds for independent expenditures during elections (um, like...advertisements and mailings in support of candidates) will extend to labor unions and other non profit special interest groups, the reality is that corporations outspend non profits 15-to-1 using funds funnled through PACs. And I happen to be an expert on this, my friends. So, being able to dip into the general treasury (profits for corporations, donations and member dues for non profits and unions/member organizations) does make things a bit lopsided. Nevertheless, there's loads of spin.
States like Michigan, with crazy strict campaign contribution laws, may see a positive impact on both sides of the line, but who really knows, right? Politics in the US have gotten so...well, unpredictable. (NYT)
